National Labor Day at Merryland of China

As in many countries, in China the 1st of May is celebrated as the National Labor Day(国际劳动节Guójì Láodòng Jié). This means that people have a national holiday and also our office was closed. I and some friends of mine had decided to go to Merryland, a theme park which is located about 69km away from Guilin. In the morning we met and went there by car, which took us 1 1/2 hours. Weather was good and so all of us were looking forward to this day.

Fubo Hill with Robbie in China

On Sunday I met my colleague Robbie to take the bus to Fubo Hill(伏波山Fúbō Shān), which is located at the bank of the Li River of China. After you enter the front gate you find yourself in a small park is dominated by Fubo Hill, which soars above the whole surrounding area. Next to the stairs to the top of the hill, a famous big bell is located, which is about two meters high. Then we began our ascendancy on the hill, which is, thanks to shadow spending trees and well build stairs, bearable. From the first platform we reached we had an impressive view on the city behind the hill. But when we arrived at the top of the hill, this view outranged(have a greater range than (another gun)) the previous one. We could see the landscapes in the horizon; overlook the whole city and Li River to our feet in all directions while the soft wind was blowing through our hair. It was a very impressive moment.

Guilin Mifan

If you come to Guilin(桂林Guìlín) City, you should not miss one thing: to taste the Guilin Mifan(桂林米线Guìlín Mǐxiàn) –Guilin Rice Noodle. It is mostly served in those small places which remind me of garages, and which do not look very clean for western standards.

TV-Commercial for Guilin of China

Last Thursday my colleague Sandy came to me and asked if I were interested in acting in a TV-advertisement for Guilin(桂林Guìlín) City in China(中国Zhōngguó). A friend of her had asked her for a foreign "actress". Of course I agreed to this idea, because I thought it could be a funny thing to do.

It serves different sorts of coffee (including freshly brewed coffee, espresso, Mocha, Cappuccino and coffee with Alcohol), cocktails and various kinds of liquors, as well as German style western dishes such as salads, burgers, schnitzel(deep-fried breaded veal cutlets), steaks and pizza.

Must Do in China

One of the best things about life in China(中国Zhōngguó) are the prices! The prices for food, for transportation, for renting houses, for entertainment(entertainment consists of performances of plays and films, and activities such as reading and watching television, that give people pleasure), for MASSAGE. Being part of Chinese traditional medicine and culture, massage is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Many Chinese people go to the massage more often than once a week, to relax, and indulge ones body and mind with it. Most common are body massages and foot massages, which cost 25RMB – 50RMB per hour. All in all one can say that the more expensive ones are often done by more professional studios. Ask your tour guide for a good address, which is not tourist driven, as many in the center are.

My 5 Days Amazing Experience in Huangshan

Guilin to Hangzhou to Tunxi of Huangshan City– ran up against traffic jam Flight from Guilin(桂林Guìlín) to Huangshan(黄山Huángshān) City went smoothly, but the connecting transfer from Hangzhou to Huangshan City (usually called Tunxi District) was quite terrible because of the traffic jam in Hangzhou. The stagnant(if something such as a business or society is stagnant, there is little activity or change) cars on the road looked like a long dragon, moving forward for 5 meters, stopping, moving, again and again. My flight arrived in Hangzhou at 15:20, but I missed the last bus (leaves at 18:50 daily) from Hangzhou to Huangshan City because of the jam. So I had to find a private car to Tunxi after I arrived in Hangzhou when it was about 22:40.
