The Twenty-four Filial Exemplars: Dong Yong 二十四孝：董永
As one of the cores of Chinese culture, "filiality" is not only the moral code for maintaining family relationships in Chinese society for thousands of years, but also the traditional virtue of Chinese Nation. A Yuan-dynasty(元朝Yuáncháo) writer Guo Jujing(郭居敬Guō Jūjìng) compiled the stories of 24 filial exemplars in ancient times and finished the Stories of Filiality. Let me introduce the sixth story to you.
Write 旧(jiù) (old) in Chinese character
旧(jiù) Origin: 本义是“鸺”（猫头鹰类）。甲骨文的字形像一只有着圆睁的眼睛和翘起的头羽的凶鸟，正蹲踞在巢里。后来假借为新旧的“旧”，本义就不存在了。
This character’s original meaning was “鸺,” a kind of owl. On oracle bone inscriptions, it looked like a fierce bird perched in a nest, its eyes open wide and the feathers on its head raised. Later, the meaning changed to “old.”
About the Eight Cuisines in China
China is a vast country with a large population and abundant resources, hence a variety of Chinese food with different but fantastic and mouthwatering flavor. Since China's local dishes have their own typical characteristics, generally, Chinese food can be roughly divided into eight regional Cuisines, which has been widely accepted around. Certainly, there are many other local Cuisine s that are famous, such as Beijing Cuisine and Shanghai Cuisine (菜系càixì).
New Year Pictures
The expression explains itself. The Chinese people have the custom of sticking up pictures to celebrate the traditional New Year–now called the Spring Festival. This was recorded in historical works of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The custom is particularly popular in the vast countryside, where just before the festival day every household will be busy spring cleaning and pasting colourful pictures or paper cuttings on their doors, windows, walls, even wardrobes and stoves.
Chinese grammar:Tag questions with “ma”
As well as yes / no questions, you can also form tag questions with 吗 (ma). Tag questions are quick questions that are tagged on the end of a sentence to ask for confirmation. In English, this is often done with "right?", or by adding the negative form of the verb phrase – e.g., "isn't it?".
Chinese food: New Year Fish Salad
Besides being full of flavors and textures, yu sheng is loaded with symbolic meaning. The raw ingredients signify the renewal of life, and the sound of the word for fish in Cantonese sounds like the word for prosperity. The most important (and fun) part of eating yu sheng is the mixing together of the ingredients. To ensure good luck for the coming year, everyone calls out "Lo hei!"-which means "to mix it up" but also sounds like "to prosper more and more"-while they use their chopsticks to toss the ingredients as high in the air as they can. Write 庚(gēng)(age) in Chinese character
庚(gēng) Origin: “庚“的本义是“脱谷的农具”。字形是一个架状物，中间有一把上端开叉的打谷器。后多用作天干名。
This character originally meant “threshing tools.” It looks like the frame of a threshing device, the upper part of which was open. Later, it was used as a name of the Heavenly Stems.
Chinese food: New Year Turnip Cake
Really more like a bread than a cake, this recipe is traditionally made during the Chinese New Year season. It can also be found in dim sum restaurants throughout the year.
The Qingming Festival 清明节
Introduction The Qingming Festival(清明节 Qīngmíng jié) which known as Tomb-sweeping Day. It falls on either April 4th or 5th of the gregorian calendar, is one of the Chinese Twenty-four Solar Terms. From that date temperatures begin to rise and rainfall increases, indicating that it's the important time for plowing and sowing in the spring. Therefore Qingming Festival has a connection with agriculture. However, it is not merely a seasonal symbol; it is also per day of paying respect to the dead, a spring outing, as well as other activities.
