2017年度汉字候选字词出炉 Hottest Chinese words, characters of 2017 announced

A shortlist(候选名单) of the 20 hottest Chinese words and Chinese characters of 2017 has been announced(公布). Words(词语) and characters(汉字) on the list related to domestic(国内的) topics include "share"(享), "cloud"(云), and "new era"(新时代), while those related to international（国际的) issues include "nuclear"(核), "intelligence"(人工智能), and "gravitational wave"(引力波).

The campaign, whose organizers include the National Language Resource Monitoring and Research Center(国家语言资源监测与研究中心) and the Commercial Press(商务印书馆), received thousands of different words and characters proposed(提名) between Nov. 20 and Dec. 4 by netizens（网友) nationwide.
