Unknown Buddha Statues Found

Hundreds of Buddha images uncovered by tourists, carved into Longshan mountain and forgotten about, the photos have gone viral on Chinese social media.

Hundreds of Buddha statues previously(以前) little known to the outside world have become an overnight hit on the Internet after they were discovered(发现) by a group of tourists who sought adventure(探险) in Foshan, south China’s Guangdong province. The statues were carved(雕刻) on steep(陡峭的) cliffs(悬崖) 20 years ago as a project funded by local government, but were abandoned(放弃) before its completion.

Enveloped by surrounding trees, they had remained(保持) in obscurity(默默无闻) for two decades until now.
