Chinese Calligraphy: Poem by Emperor Huizong中国书法:宋徽宗的诗帖
The common name for Emperor Huizong was Zhao Ji . Reigning as the eighth emperor of the Song dynasty from 1101 to 1125, Huizong was known for his extravagant lifestyle, which is believed to be part of the reason for the near collapse of the dynasty and his own demise at enemy hands. However, he was also known for his passion for painting, calligraphy, poetry, and prose. His painting and calligraphy are marked by exceptional refinement and observation to detail. His paintings of birds-and-flowers, in particular, are renowned for their realism and beauty. Huizong was the guiding force behind the Painting Academy in the late Northern Song, and his overall influence on early Chinese painting cannot be overestimated.

The Summer Solstice occurs exactly when the Earth's axial tilt is closest to the sun, at its maximum angle of 23°26'. On that day, daytime lasts its longest for the whole year in the northern hemisphere. After the day of Summer Solstice, daytime begins to become shorter and shorter in the northern hemisphere. That's why there is a folk saying which goes, "After eating the Summer Solstice noodles, daytime becomes shorter and shorter".

People can eat as much lettuce and chilled noodles as they wish, because these foods can help stimulate appetites instead of undermining their health in the hot summer days.
