Each country has colloquialism. After learning Chinese for quite some time and knowing a lot of characters, however, once immersed among local Chinese, you’ll still find yourself totally lost. Because you don’t understand the Chinese idioms and colloquialisms. This series of articles will help you learn these. Today we will learned five of them.

①无可奉告 wú kě fènɡ ɡào
The meaning of the expression is “no comment” . If someone asked you a question that you don’t want to ask or you must keep secret, you can say “无可奉告”.
For example:
甲:能不能告诉我关于她的事情啊?
乙:对不起,无可奉告。

② 无所谓 wú suǒwèi
The meaning of the expression is “I don’t care”.
For example:
甲:我想买几个苹果
乙:这里有几种,你要哪种?
甲:要好点儿的吧。
乙:好点儿的要贵些。
甲:无所谓

③ 说不过去 shuò bù ɡuòqù
The meaning of the expression is ”cannot be justified or explained away” or “no excuse for”.
For example:
甲:明天的聚会我不想去
乙:你是主角啊,不去的话说不过去。

④ 死心 sǐ xīn
The meaning of the expression is “give up the idea”.
For example:
甲:算了吧,这个资格考试你怕是过不了吧。
乙:不行,不考一次我不死心。

⑤ 什么风把你吹来的 shénme fēnɡ bǎ nǐ chuī lái de
The meaning of the expression is “what brings you here”.
For example:
一天,乙到甲家拜访。
甲:谁呀?
乙:是我。
甲:哎呀,是你啊,今天是什么风把你吹来的?
乙:好久不见,想来看看你,最近好吗?
