Are you going to work overtime today?

Many of the enterprises in China have a widespread culture of working overtime. But statistics show that this easily leads to tiredness, loss of energy, increase of errors and anxiety. Some people even think the businesses fail to hire a staff that is capable enough to complete the tasks given. Working overtime is not necessarily a good thing.
 

mài kè: lì li, xià bān hòu zán men yī qǐ zǒu ba?
麦克:丽丽,下班后咱们一起走吧? 
Mike: Lili, let’s go together after work, shall we?

lì li: duì bù qì, wo hái yǒu yī xiē gōng zuò méi yǒu wán chéng, nǐ xiān zǒu ba.
丽丽:对不起,我还有一些工作没有完成,你先走吧。 
Lili: Sorry, I still have some work to finish. You may go first.

mài kè: kàn lái nǐ jīn tiān yào jiā bān le, yào dào hěn wǎn ma?
麦克:看来你今天要加班了,要到很晚吗? 
Mike: It seems that you are going to work overtime today. Until very late?

lì li: bú huì tài wǎn de, dà yuē yī gè xiǎo shí jiù néng gǎo dìng.
丽丽:不会太晚的,大约一个小时就能搞定。 
Lili: Not too late. I can get it done within an hour.

mài kè: xià zhōu gōng sī pài wǒ qù wài dì chū chāi, dào shí hòu yě huì hěn máng.
麦克:下周公司派我去外地出差,到时候也会很忙。 
Mike: The company will send me on a business trip next week. I will be busy, too.

lì li: nǐ bú zài qī jiān, xū yào wǒ bāng nǐ zuò shén me?
丽丽:你不在期间,需要我帮你做些什么? 
Lili: What can I do for you while you are gone?

mài kè: rú guǒ yǒu rén dǎ diàn huà zhǎo wǒ, qǐng fā duǎn xìn gào sù wǒ.
麦克:如果有人打电话找我,请发短信告诉我。 
Mike: If someone calls me, please send me a message.

lì li: méi wèn tí, yǒu shì ér wǒ huì jí shí hé nǐ lián xì.
丽丽:没问题,有事儿我会及时和你联系。 
Lili: No problem. I will contact you immediately if anything happens.

mài kè: chū chāi huí lái hòu, xū yào qù cái wù bù bào xiāo yī xiē dān jù ba?
麦克:出差回来后,需要去财务部报销一些单据吧? 
Mike: After the business trip, I will have to go to the Finance Department to be reimbursed for the receipts, right?

lì li: shì de, nǐ děi bǎ xū yào bào xiāo de dān jù dōu zhěng lǐ hǎo.
丽丽:是的,你得把需要报销的单据都整理好。 
Lili: Yes. You should have these receipts all prepared.

mài kè: wǒ kě yǐ gēn gōng sī shēn qǐng yù zhī yī xiē fèi yong ma?
麦克:我可以跟公司申请预支一些费用吗? 
Mike: Can I ask the company in advance to pay for some expenses ahead of time?

lì li: yīng gāi kě yǐ, nǐ zuǐ hǎo xiān qǐng shì yí xià cái wù bù.
丽丽:应该可以,你最好先请示一下财务部。 
Lili: That should be ok. You should ask for instructions from the Finance Department.

mài kè: hǎo de, wǒ xiàn zài jiù gěi tā men dǎ diàn huà.
麦克:好的,我现在就给他们打电话。 
Mike: Ok, I will call them right now.

lì li: dàn yuàn tā men de fù zé rén hái zài, yǐ jīng dào xià bān de shí jiān le.
丽丽:但愿他们的负责人还在,已经到下班的间了。 
Lili: I hope the man in charge is still there, since it’s closing.
