Dialogue – Finding a part-time job 找兼职

There are plenty of part-time jobs available for foreigners seeking to earn extra money in Beijing and other cities. Many leading employers of part-time workers accept online applications. In other cases, it’s better to apply in person. Mike is talking with his friend Lili about how to get started on a part-time job search.

课文mài kè: wǒ hěn xiǎng zhǎo yí fèn jiān zhí gōng zuò.麦克:我很想找一份兼职工作。
Mike: I’d like to find a part-time job.

lì li: hǎo a, nǐ xiǎng zhǎo yí fèn shén me yàng de gōng zuò?
丽丽:好啊,你想找一份什么样的工作?
Lili: Good. What kind of job are you going to look for?

mài kè: wǒ xiǎng dāng dài kè lǎo shī, jiāo zhōng xiǎo xué shēng yīng yǔ.麦克:我想当代课老师,教中小学生英语。Mike: I want to be a substitute teacher, teaching middle or primary school students English.

lì li: shǒu xiān nǐ dĕi qǐ cǎo yí fèn jiǎn lì, jiè shào yí xià zì jǐ de cóng jiào jīng yàn.
丽丽:首先你得起草一份简历,介绍一下自己的从教经验。
Lili: You must draft a résumé first, presenting your teaching experience.

mài kè: wǒ yǒu wǔ nián de jiào xué jīng yàn. wǒ xǐ huān hé hái zi men dǎ jiāo dào.麦克:我有五年的教学经验。我喜欢和孩子们打交道。Mike: I was a teacher for five years. I like to deal with children.

lì li: nǐ xiǎng qù xué xiào shòu kè, hài shì yī duì yī zài jiā li shòu kè?
丽丽:你想去学校授课,还是一对一在家里授课?
Lili: Do you want to teach in schools or teach individual students at home?

mài kè: dōu xíng. wǒ xiǎng gèng duō de liǎo jiě zhōng guó de xué xiào hé jiā tíng.麦克:都行。我想更多地了解中国的学校和家庭。
Mike: Both would do. I’d like to know more about Chinese schools and families.

lì li: nǐ kě yǐ tōng guò zhōng jiè gōng sī zhǎo jiān zhí, yě kě yǐ tōng guò shú rén jiè shào.丽丽:你可以通过中介公司找兼职,也可能通过熟人介绍。Lili: You may find a part-time job through agencies or friends.

mài kè: wǒ xiǎng tōng guò hòu zhě, zhōng jiè gōng sī shōu fèi hěn gāo ér qiě yǒu xiē bù kě xìn.麦克:我想通过后者,中介公司收费很高而且有些不可信。
Mike: I prefer the latter. The agencies ask for high fees and they’re not reliable.

lì li: yě xǔ wǒ kě yǐ bāng nǐ dǎ tīng yí xià. wǒ yǒu gè péng yǒu qià qiǎo shì xiǎo xué xiào zhǎng.丽丽:也许我可以帮你打听一下。我有个朋友恰巧是小学校长。
Lili: Maybe I can make some enquiries on your behalf. I have a friend who happens to be a school master.

mài kè: nà zhēn shì tài hǎo le. shì chéng zhī hòu wǒ yào hǎo hǎo xiè xiè nǐ.麦克:那真是太好了,事成之后我一定好好谢谢你。
Mike: That’s great! I would appreciate your help very much.

lì li: bù kè qì. qǐng wǒ chī fàn jiù xíng la.丽丽:不客气。请我吃饭就行啦。Lili: You are welcome. Just thank me by treating me to dinner.

mài kè: méi wèn tí, yì yán wéi dìng.
麦克:没问题,一言为定。
Mike: No problem. That’s settled then.

lì li: hǎo de, wǒ zhè jiù gěi tā dǎ diàn huà. 丽丽:好的,我这就给他打电话。Lili: Okay, I’ll call him right now.
