Lesson Sixty-three To Catch a Cold

It’s cold season again! The common cold is the most frequent infectious disease in humans. Symptoms include a cough, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion and fever. Although there is no cure, one can strengthen his immune system’s ability to fight the infection with regular exercise, a balanced diet and enough rest.

Lili: You don’t look well. What’s wrong?

Mike: I feel a tickle in my throat these days. And my head aches a little bit today.

Lili: Is that a cold? Have you got a fever or any other symptoms?

mài kè: hái hăo, jiù shì hóu lóng yăng yăng de, gū jì shì găn mào le.

Mike: All is OK but a scratchy throat. I seem to have a cold.

lì li: nà nĭ chī yào le ma? zuì jìn tiān qì hū lĕng hū rè de, róng yì găn mào.

Lili: Do you take medicine? The weather is fickle these days. It’s easy to catch cold.

mài kè: wŏ zài hē găn mào chōng jì, yī tiān sān bāo.

Mike: I have been drinking instant herbal medicines for cold. Three bags each day.

lì li: hóu lóng yăng shuō míng yŏu yán zhèng. wŏ zhèr yŏu xiē xiāo yán yào, nĭ àn zhào zhè shàng miàn de yòng yào shuō míng mĕi tiān chī shang jĭ piàn ba.
丽丽：喉咙痒说明有炎症。我这儿有些消炎药，你按照这上面的用药说明每天吃上几片吧。Dialogue - To Catch a Cold
Lili: A scratchy throat is caused by inflammation. I have an anti-inflammatory drug here. You can take several pills every day according to the instruction.

Mike: Thank you. I will keep taking medicine.

lì li: zhè ge jì jié găn mào de rén hĕn duō. nĭ yī dìng dĕi duō hē shuĭ, hăo hāor xiū xī, zhè yàng cái hăo de kuài.
丽丽：这个季节感冒的人很多。你一定得多喝水，好好儿休息，这样才好得快。Dialogue - To Catch a Cold
Lili: Many people catch cold during this season. Drink more, have a good rest, and you will be fine soon.
