Written and oral tests(笔试和口试) for Mandarin(汉语) are being included(纳入) in Russia’s national college entrance exam(俄全国统一考试) as an elective(选修) foreign language, according to announcement by Sergey Kravtsov, deputy minister of education and science of the Russian Federation reported in Sputnik News.

The deputy minister said the change(变化) to the college exams was three years in the making, but that supporting materials(材料) and resources(资源) are now in place(就绪).

Students in Russia are expected soon to sit elective foreign language exams on five languages: English(英语), French(法语), German(德语), Spanish(西班牙语), and now Mandarin.

The announcement on Wednesday comes after earlier reports said Russia’s Education Supervision Bureau was aiming to have completed preparations for the inclusion of Mandarin by 2020.
