What is the Major Heat/Greatheat?什么是大暑?

Major Heat (Dashu in Chinese) is the 12th solar term of the Chinese lunar calendar. It begins when the Sun reaches the celestial longitude of 120° and ends when it reaches the longitude of 135°. It more often refers in particular to the day when the Sun is exactly at the celestial longitude of 120°. Similar to Minor Heat, Major Heat is also a solar term that reflects the heat of summer. Major Heat means extreme heat. During Major Heat, most parts of China enter the hottest season of the year. It is an important period for the growth of crops. Many natural calamities such as floods, droughts and typhoons also happen frequently in this period.

The Double Ninth Festival 重阳节

农历九月初九是重阳节。这是一个很古老的节日，距今已有一千七百多年的历史。The Double Ninth Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. It is a very old festival and has a history of more than 1,700 years.
在中国数字中，一、三、五、七、九为阳数，二、四、六、八为阴数。因此，九月初九被称作重阳或重九。中国古代，重阳节是一个重要的节日，这一天要举行各种活动，如：登高、赏菊、插茱萸、吃重阳糕等。Among Chinese numbers, the numbers one, three, five, seven and nine are thought to be yang (Chinese for masculine or positive) and two, four, six and eight are thought to be yin (Chinese for feminine or negative). Thus, the ninth day of the ninth lunar month is called the Double Yang or Double Ninth. As an important festival in ancient China, the Double Ninth Festival was celebrated by doing various activities, such as climbing a mountain, appreciating chrysanthemums, wearing cornel and eating double ninth cakes.
