The Ancient Loulan 古楼兰

The ruins of the Ancient Loulan(楼兰Lóulán) is located nearly 300 km northeast of Ruoqiang County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It’s adjacent to another ancient city, Dunhuang in Gansu.

One of the great mysteries in Chinese history is the disappearance of the ancient city of Loulan.

The world-famous city ruins, the Loulan Kingdom, was swallowed up by the shifting sands of the Taklamakan Desert 1,400 years ago.

It was the capital of the 36 kingdoms in the western region of the Han Dynasty as well as an important thoroughfare on the ancient Silk Road, flourished from the 2nd century B.C. to the 4th century.

The articles in the ruins have attracted worldwild attention, among which the most precious are the hand-written copy of the Strategies of the Warring States période.
