Zhou Yu (175 – 210), Han nationality, was born in Shu county, Lujiang (now southwestern part of Lujiang county, Anhui province). His courtesy name is Gongjin. He was a prominent general of Eastern Wu in the late Eastern Han Period and was known as “Zhou, the Handsome Youth” for his good-looking appearance. He was skilled in the art of war as well as in rhyme, according to an old saying around the land south of the Yangtze River, “If there is a rhyming error, Zhou will remind the player.” In 208, under the command of Zhou Yu, the troops of Sun Quan and Liu Bei defeated the troops of Cao Cao by a strategy of using fire, which laid the foundation of “splitting China into three pieces”. In 210, he died from illness at the age of 36.
