Growing up with Chinese(成长汉语) is an entertaining, fun and easy Chinese series. This series teaches 300 of the most commonly spoken Chinese phrases to teenagers. It is hosted by Charlotte MacInnis, known to the Chinese audiences as Ai Hua.

2013年第12届汉语桥30强选手:林家豪

2013年第12届汉语桥世界大学生中文比赛30强选手林家豪来自马来西亚代表队,祖籍福建安溪。是马来西亚的第四代后裔,其祖父是跟随早期下南洋的福建人一同迁居到马来西亚的。其父母都是说闽南语的,也因为是早期移民,所以他们在中国没有亲人。但林家豪的普通话说的相当好。他自幼很喜欢中国文化,也因此促进了他的中文学习。林家豪不仅喜欢中国文化,还对历史有比较深入的了解和研究。他特别欣赏唐代的历史和中国近现代史。

Thinking Of My Brothers On Mountain-climbing Day

九月九日,指农历九月初九重阳节。中国民间很重视这个节日,在这一天有登高、头上插茱萸、饮菊花酒等习俗,传说能以此避灾。忆,就是想念。山东,指华山以东,就是现在的山西,诗人王维的家乡就在这一带。Mountain-climbing Day refers to the Double Ninth Festival, which is on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month. It is a festival highly valued by Chinese folks. Chinese people usually climb mountains, carry dogwood on their heads, and drink chrysanthemum wine on the day. Legend has it that by doing these people can avoid disasters. “忆(yì)” means to recall. “山东(shān dōng)” means the place to the east of Mount Hua, which actually refers to the Shangxi Province nowadays, the hometown of the poet Wang Wei.

2013年第12届汉语桥30强选手: 马正桦

22岁的津巴布韦小伙子麦克,身高1米94,精通4种语言——绍纳语、英语、俄语和乌克兰语。作为津巴布韦“汉语桥”第一人参加7月在中国长沙举行的世界大学生中文比赛决赛。1991年出生在离津巴布韦首都哈拉雷不远的一个小城镇,父亲是当地人,母亲是乌克兰人,他11岁时随家人移居乌克兰,直到读完中学,而后赴美深造。麦克不仅对汉语语言着迷,对中国文化也很感兴趣。他在“汉语桥”津巴布韦赛区决赛时深情演绎张学友的《回头太难》,给在场的评委和观众留下了深刻印象。

Parting Poems in Ancient China

The custom of giving the branch of a willow tree to departing friends presumably comes from the Qin Dynasty (221B.C.-206B.C.), and it became a fixed tradition through later dynasties. People chose a willow branch as a gift for several reasons. Firstly, the willow in Chinese is called “ 柳树 ” (liǔshù), because “ 柳 ”(liǔ) shares a similar pronunciation with “ 留 ” (liú, “to stay”), an expression of unwillingness to part. Secondly, the willow has vitality and takes root wherever it is planted, so giving friends a branch of willow conveys good wishes. Lastly, the willow was believed to be able to protect people from evil ghosts, a way of wishing them a safe journey.

2013年第12届汉语桥30强选手: 傅大江

傅大江(全名是吕克·波科恩Luc Pokorn)是加拿大约克大学主修国际关系和拉美研究的二年级学生。他荣获2013年第12届“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛多伦多赛区冠军,取得了今年夏天前往中国长沙参加“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛总决赛的资格。大山是我学习中文的最大偶像。他是法裔加拿大人,父亲从事法语和英语的互译工作。2011年5月,傅大江读完大一时,父亲把他送到北京参加一个为期3个月的中文学习强化班。他是吃货,最喜欢的中国主食是刀削面,最喜欢的中国菜是回锅肉,他还喜欢“喝着啤酒,吃着串儿”,喜欢包子、豆浆、茶叶蛋之类的中式早餐。傅大江的梦想是有朝一日在中国从事演艺工作。
