Chinese Culture: Chinese Cloisonné (景泰蓝)

Today, I will introduce the Chinese Cloisonné. Let us have a brief introduction. Cloisonné, or Jingtai Blue in Chinese, is a traditional enamelware with a history of more than 500 years. Prevalent in Jingtai period of Ming Dynasty (1450- 1456), and with its typical color of blue, the cloisonné was so called as Jingtai Blue by people. With its distinctive shape, exquisite workmanship, solemn design and splendid color, Cloisonné is strong in national culture that enjoys a high reputation home and abroad.

Chinese language lessons:How to Learn Language

(一)
A: Nǐhǎo, nǐ huì shuō zhōngwén ma?
     你好,你会说中文吗?
    (Hi, can you speak Chinese?)
B: (1)Wǒ huì yìdiǎn.
            我会一点。
            (I can speak a little.)
     (2)Wǒ búhuì shuō zhōngwén.
              我不会说中文。
             (I cannot speak Chinese.)
(二)
A: Nǐ huì xiě hànzì ma?
     你会写汉字吗?
    (Can you write Chinese character?)
B: (1)Wǒ huì yìdiǎn, wǒ zhèngzài xué.
            我会一点,我正在学。
            (I can speak a little. I am studying Chinese character.)
     (2) Wǒ búhuì. 
              我不会。
             (I cannot.)
(三)
A: Nǐhǎo, nǐ huì shuō yīngwén ma?
     你好,你会说英文吗?
    (Hi, can you speak English?)
B: Shìde, wǒ huì shuō yīngwén.
     是的,我会说英文。
    (Yes, I can speak English.)
A: Nǐ kěyǐ bāng wǒ ma?
     你可以帮我吗?
     (Could you do me a favor?)
B: Dāngrán.
      当然。
     (Of course.)
A:Xiè xiè! 
      谢谢!
     (Thanks!)
(四)
A:  Nǐhǎo, wǒ búhuì shuō hànyǔ. Qǐngwèn zhèlǐ shuí huì shuō yīngyǔ?
      你好,我不会说汉语,请问这里谁会说英语?
      (Hi, I cannot speak Chinese. May I ask who can speak English here?)
B:  Wǒ huì shuō yīngyǔ.
       我会说英语。
       (I can speak English.)
(五)
A:  Duìbùqǐ, qǐng shuō màn yìdiǎn. Qǐng zài shuō yíbiàn.
       对不起,请说慢一点。请再说一遍。
      (Sorry, please speak slowly. Please repeat again. )

Chinese Song: ‘I Miss You’ 我好想你 by Sodagreen

’I Miss You’ (我好想你,  Wǒ hǎoxiǎng nǐ) is included in Taiwanese indie band sodagreen (苏打绿,    sū dá lǜ) ‘s eponymous album, released on June 17th. The band’s vocalist Wu Qingfeng ( 吴青峰,  Wú Qīngfēng) aka Wu Tsing-Fong said he wrote this song five years ago and experienced an emotional meltdown when recording it. This year, this song was chosen to be the theme song of the movie Tiny Times (小时代,   Xiǎo shídài) directed by Young-adult Fiction writer Guo Jingming (郭敬明,  Guō Jìngmíng). At time of translation, this song has generated 770,516 listens on Xiami.

Chinese Song: ‘Speechless Song’ 无言歌 by Lin Yilian

‘Speechless Song’ (无言歌,  Wúyán gē) is part of 47-year-old Hong Kong singer Lin Yilian ( 林忆莲,  Lín Yìlián)  aka Sandy Lam‘s 2012 album 'Gaia', which was nominated for six awards at the 24th Taiwan Golden Melody Awards. At the July 6th’s awards ceremony, this album eventually won the Best Mandarin Album award while Sandy Lam won the Best Mandarin Female Singer award and co-won the Best Album Producer award with Guangdong singer, songwriter, and music producer Chang Shilei. Chang Shilei also won the Best Musical Arranger award for the song ‘Gaia’.
